Cost of Services
While I provide about 15% of my services at no-cost, these spots are reserved for people navigating the shelter system and with whose case managers I have an existing partnership. To the rest of my clients, I offer a sliding scale of $150-210 per weekly 80min session based on an honour system of your financial need. I appreciate and deeply lament that even the lowest end of my sliding scale is unaffordable for so many. While not an ideal solution, DBT skills-training groups without individual therapy can be a more affordable option you might look into, if you can’t afford my services.
Services + Fees
I offer a sliding scale of $150-$210 per each weekly 80min session.
DBT phone coaching calls are offered at no extra cost beyond your weekly session fee, during my on-call hours (I’m on call 7.5 hours/week).
If you choose, occasional meetings may be added at the same rate as your session fee, for you and I to meet together with other professionals and/or loved ones who are supporting you (e.g., case managers, social workers, social service workers, teachers, physicians, nurses, clergy, family, friends, partners).
“How do I know whether I qualify for sliding scale?”
This is an honour system, so you decide what amount you’re paying on the sliding scale. The sad and unjust reality is that all private psychotherapy is “too expensive” for anyone who is middle-class or low-income, myself included. So the guideline for your decision is more like, what is the rate you can pay without taking a major hit to your basic quality of life? Rather than a guideline about what feels comfortable. If your answer is “$150” or “not even $150,” then I’ll offer you a rate of $150. If your answer is a higher number, then I’ll offer you a rate at that higher number.
Reparations
In the spirit of addressing ongoing colonization, if you’re Black and/or Indigenous, I’ll offer you the lowest end of my sliding scale rate as your 80min session fee, which is $150. This is regardless of your financial situation.
About Insurance
Some insurers will reimburse you for my services. Ask if your provider covers registered psychotherapists who are members of Ontario Society of Registered Psychotherapists (OSRP). I don’t to direct billing, so either way, you’ll need to pay me up-front and then if applicable get reimbursed by your insurer.
“What’s the Math I can Do to Know if I can afford your services?”
Since the required minimum commitment to my program is 1 year, to afford my services you’ll need to make sure you have a way to pay for at least a full year of this weekly treatment program (i.e., enough funds to cover at least 44 weekly sessions in a row). Note that even if you’re insured, most insurance providers will not fully cover an intensive weekly program like this, so you’ll need to talk to your insurance provider and determine how much you’ll need to pay from your own funds.
