Hi! I’m Alejandra (they/them).
Looking for therapy can be really hard, and I’m so glad you’re doing it.
Maybe it’s like you’re about to drown in overwhelm, and you wish you could catch your breath.
Maybe that out-of-control urge exploded again, and you wish you could find that kind of relief without all the mess afterward.
Maybe it exploded in one or more of your relationships, and you don’t know what to do, but you feel unspeakably lost or lonely about it.
Maybe at times you’ve given up on life being worth living.
Maybe other times you do everything you can think of to survive.
Or maybe your partner, your teenager, your adult kiddo. or someone else you love is going through things like this, and you’ve got your own work to do in order to be helpful to them without losing yourself.
I’m here for all that.
In a Nutshell
I’m a registered psychotherapist with 15+ years of professional practice and 40+ years of life.
I offer dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) that’s informed by a number of other therapy frameworks and grounded in antiracism.
I see my work as helping my clients to grow compassion and curiosity toward their reality and relationships, just as they are— crises, losses, harmdoing, oppressions and all. The paradox here is that this accepting stance then helps my clients to grow that very same reality into something kinder, safer, and more just, fulfilling and sustainable. Together we can help you learn to surf the waves of emotion and find what’s embodying and freeing about them. And we can help you grow relationships that balance respectful acceptance and validation with requests for change and boundaries.
Who Are the People I Work With?
I serve clients who live in Ontario via remote-only video services.
I work with people impacted by “BPD / BPD traits,” DID, dissociative “disorders,” relationship-emotion dysregulation and/or suicidal behaviours; their partners; or other folks who have specific goals about developing relationship effectiveness. Here are some examples of what you might be navigating as someone who could benefit from working with me:
you navigate, identify with or believe you may be navigating “borderline personality disorder-or-traits,” relationship-emotion dysregulation or any anti-ableist term for a “BPD”-related profile;
you navigate, identify with or believe you may be navigating Dissociative Identity “Disorder” (DID) (aka Dissociative Identity Response) or another dissociative “disorder,” and you’re looking for some stabilizing work in DBT before you proceed to do longer-term work with your next therapist;
you navigate suicidal and/or self-injury related actions or urges;
you engage in actions that worsen or threaten your relationship(s), for example things like yelling, accusations, begging, nagging, pleading, blaming, baiting, threats, name-calling, boundary-crossing, harassment, put-downs, criticism, physical force, etc.;
you engage in mild-to-moderate alcohol or drug overuse;
you engage in bingeing and/or purging that doesn’t result in dangerous malnutrition;
you’re the partner, parent or any other loved one of someone having any of the above experiences, and you’re looking to focus on developing the skills and capacity you need to support their wellness and your own at the same time;
you’re a political organizer or activist, and you want to focus on strengthening your relational and emotional skills, for a season;
you’re polyam (polyamorous), and you want to focus on strengthening your relational and emotional skills, for a season, in the context of your romantic, sexual, and/or companionate relationships.
How Often Are Sessions?
Weekly. This is because we’ll be working pretty hard including phone coaching between your weekly sessions, and meeting less often than weekly (e.g., biweekly or monthly) just doesn’t work well with this format.
